Understanding Saline Tattoo Removal
Saline tattoo removal is a gentle yet effective method for fading and eliminating unwanted eyebrow tattoos and other permanent makeup. Unlike laser removal, the saline technique uses a specially formulated solution that is carefully introduced into the treated area, gradually drawing the pigment out of the skin through the body's natural healing process. It is widely recognised as a more skin-friendly alternative with less discomfort, making it a preferred choice for many clients seeking correction or removal of their PMU.
Immediate Aftercare After Your Session
First 48 Hours — Initial Care
- Gently cleanse — Cleanse the treated area with a mild, fragrance-free antibacterial soap. Use clean hands and pat dry with a disposable tissue. Do not rub.
- Apply healing ointment — Use a thin layer of the aftercare balm recommended by your technician. Keeping the area slightly moist supports the healing process and reduces scabbing.
- Avoid water immersion — Short showers are fine, but keep your face away from the direct stream. No baths, swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms, or hot tubs until the skin has fully healed.
- No touching — Do not touch, pick, or scratch the area. Your hands carry bacteria that can cause infection.
First Week — Preventing Infection
- Daily cleaning routine — Continue cleansing morning and evening with mild soap, followed by a fresh layer of healing ointment.
- Sleep on your back — Avoid sleeping on your face or stomach to prevent pressure and friction on the treated brows.
- No makeup — Do not apply any makeup, concealer, or foundation over the treated area during the first week.
- Stay out of the sun — Direct sunlight can irritate the healing skin. Wear a wide-brimmed hat if you must go outside.
Long-Term Healing and Maintenance
Weeks 2-4 — Monitoring Progress
- Scabbing is normal — The treated area will form light scabs or flaking as the pigment lifts. Do not pick or scratch. Let the scabs fall off naturally to avoid scarring.
- Keep moisturised — Continue applying a fragrance-free moisturiser or healing balm to soothe any itching and support skin regeneration.
- Sun protection is critical — The healing skin is extremely sensitive to UV. Use a high-SPF mineral sunscreen once the surface has closed, or keep the area covered.
Beyond 4 Weeks — Ensuring Optimal Results
- Continue moisturising — Well-hydrated skin heals better and retains less pigment trauma. Use a gentle moisturiser daily.
- Multiple sessions may be needed — Depending on the depth and density of the original pigment, 2-4 saline removal sessions spaced 6-8 weeks apart may be required for complete fading.
- Final result patience — The full healing and pigment lightening process can take up to 3 months. The skin continues to regenerate and push out pigment particles during this period.
Important: Every client heals differently. If you experience excessive redness, swelling, discharge, or prolonged discomfort, contact your PMU technician immediately. Proper aftercare is the single most important factor in achieving a clean, even removal result.
